Middle School
The latest academic development at University Christian School is our middle school, including grades 6 - 8. The administrative decision to focus on the middle school learner was based on the desire to strengthen the learning and life skills so needed for the adolescent.
Basic to the development of this child is the goal to offer godly character in an environment of structure, safety, and compassion. When we meet these needs we have not only displayed the nature of Christ, but also opened the doors of learning to optimum levels.
The middle school classrooms are adjacent to one another, with hall lockers and the cafeteria in close proximity. The middle school teachers work closely together to offer a similar experience as the child moves through the seven-period academic day.
The sixth-graders remain as one class, experiencing Math, Science, History, Language Arts, Bible, and PE together. Language arts includes a traditional approach of grammar, reading, vocabulary and spelling. The focus on comprehension, writing, and study skills are an important part of this class.
Our seventh-graders are divided into two tracts, depending on math scores. One tract is taught a fast-paced basic core of math skills, while the other tract begins pre-Algebra. The students are then mixed in the English, History, Science, Bible, and PE classes. The focus continues to be strong in study skills and includes nightly homework.
The highlight of the eighth grade is computer and art, in addition to the double tract of Math: pre-Algebra or Algebra I (a high school accredited course). Bible, Science, English, and History are taught in the traditional format encouraging strong study skills.
Our schedule for grades 6 - 8 operates on a 7 period schedule.
