UCS MISSIONS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

Ministry outreach is a vital part of the UCS experience. Students, beginning in the kindergarten classes, learn ways to express Christ's love by participating in mission projects in the community. Learning to be an ambassador for Christ is an important componentof the spiritual training at UCS.

All kindergarten and elementary classes visit surrounding nursing homes. The children bring a program of song, poetry, and memory verses and take homemade cards to brighten the day of the local residents.

The 6th grade travels to the Mustard See to play games, make crafts, have pizza and share in the Seedster's devotional time. UCS students love making news friends with the Seedsters.

The 7th grade spends a day with the Stewpot Ministries. The boys assist in sorting the canned goods pantry while the girls organize the clothes in the Clothes Shop. At lunch, all the students assist in the serving line and are able to bring greetings of love to those in need of a kind word and hot meal.

The 8th grade assists the Animal Rescue Federation by walking and feeding the animals and cleaning the cages.

The 9th grade volunteers at the Center for Violence Prevention helping to sort clothing and other items given to the thrift store that is managed by the Center.

The 10th grade travels to the inner city of Jackson to assist in meeting the needs of the homeless through the We Will Go Ministry. Their projects include painting, cleaning, and bagging food.

The 11th grade partners with the Mississippi Food Network to put boxes of food together for people who need a Thanksgiving dinner.

The Seniors take a 5-day mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains to minister to the Ocoee people.

As a prerequisite for graduation, high school seniors are required to complete 100 approved hours of community service.

In addition to the mission trips, UCS also participates in numerous projects involving collecting canned goods and gently used coats, Toys for Tots, emergency relief for disaster areas, and supporting our troops.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James, 1:27, ESV)
